Landscaping Website Design That Keeps Growing

CLC Landscape Design — Ringwood, New Jersey

CLC Landscape Design is an award-winning New Jersey landscape architecture firm with fifty years of work behind them and an ageing static HTML website in front of them. We rebuilt it on WordPress in five months — and we’ve been their digital partner every month since. The website was only the first five months.

The Challenge

Why their old landscaping website was costing them work

CLC is an award-winning New Jersey firm with more than fifty years of high-end landscape architecture behind them — pools, pavilions, outdoor kitchens, plantings, lighting. NJLCA and NJNLA excellence awards on the wall.

Their website did not say any of that. It was static HTML with no content management system, and no way for the team to add work without a developer. The gap between the craftsmanship and the digital presence was the whole problem.

  • Static HTML with no content management — every update needed a developer
  • No accessibility compliance and no mobile responsiveness
  • Contact form emails landing in spam, so leads simply vanished
  • An old gallery system that buried their best projects
  • No structured portfolio pages and no clear service segmentation
  • Slow, partial page loads causing drop-off before content rendered
Our Approach

Design thinking, applied to websites

Every project we take on follows the same five stages — CLC included. It's why the result solved a business problem rather than just looking different from what they had before.

  1. 01 · Empathise

    Listen & Learn

User needs and business goals, before a single decision gets made.

  2. 02 · Define

    Define the Vision

A clear user experience and page structure, agreed in writing.

  3. 03 · Ideate

    Explore Ideas

Creative design solutions drawn from scratch — no templates, no AI.

  4. 04 · Prototype

    Bring It to Life

Build and refine the website and the experience around it.

  5. 05 · Test

    Test & Refine

Checked, corrected, and tuned for ongoing success after launch.

The same five stages run on every project — a one-page refresh or, in CLC's case, a seventy-four-page rebuild.

The Build

How we designed and built the new WordPress website

We partnered closely with CLC for over five months, working hand-in-hand with owner Rich through weekly design and strategy meetings. Every decision was made collaboratively, so the new site aligned with their evolving brand vision and their clients’ needs.

01

Discovery and strategy

Identified core user flows, brand tone, and the technical pain points holding the old site back.

02

Design and collaboration

Refined layouts and page flow with Rich and the CLC team, so every section clearly showcased the quality, scale, and craftsmanship of their work.

03

Development and performance

Rebuilt on WordPress with a flexible system for portfolio projects, service categories, and ongoing content — designed to scale as the business grows.

04

Accessibility and optimisation

Improved navigation structure, font hierarchy, and contrast for readability, while optimising load performance across desktop and mobile.

05

Testing and launch

Built on staging with a temporary domain so the live site never went dark, then multiple QA rounds before migrating to production.

Since launch

Still here, still building

We didn’t hand over the keys and disappear. We’ve stayed on as CLC’s digital partner — keeping the site fast, secure, and accurate, and helping it grow as they add new work every season.

Results

What changed after the new website launched

Faster, complete page loads

Partial, stalling page loads resolved to consistent, complete rendering — removing the drop-off that happened before visitors ever saw the work.

Mobile-first, rebuilt from the ground up

A rigid HTML structure replaced with a fully responsive, mobile-first layout.

Lower bounce rate, deeper engagement

Visitors move through service pages and project pages rather than landing and leaving.

Built to handle high enquiry volume

High-volume enquiries handled without performance or stability issues.

The Part Nobody Talks About

Why hosting matters far more than most people realise

You can build the fastest website in the world and still lose visitors, because a website is only ever as quick as the server it sits on. Most businesses choose a host once, on price, and never think about it again.

CLC was on HostGator shared hosting — the sort of budget plan almost every small business starts on. Fine for a brochure site with a few hundred visitors. Not fine for seventy-four image-heavy project pages, a busy contact form, and a portfolio that needs to load before someone loses patience. We moved them to Rocket managed WordPress hosting as part of the rebuild.

What it affects Shared budget host Managed WP host

Server response timeHow long before anything appears at all

Shared with hundreds of other sites Dedicated resources

Image-heavy pagesCritical for a portfolio of built work

Slows under load Built-in CDN

Traffic spikesAn award, a feature, a seasonal rush

Degrades or drops Absorbs the spike

Security and malwareThe risk nobody budgets for until it happens

Largely your problem Scanned and patched

Backups and recoveryWhat happens the day something breaks

Often an add-on Daily, restorable

Support when it mattersWho answers, and how fast

General queue WordPress specialists

The part most people miss: hosting is not a line item you set once and forget. It is the floor your entire website stands on — and no amount of design, content, or SEO work can lift a site above a slow server. If your pages feel sluggish and nobody can explain why, this is usually where the answer is.

Built To Be Handed Over

A website their own team can grow

Every new project CLC completes goes onto the site by their own team, through the system we built for them. No developer ticket, no waiting, no inconsistency between page fifty and page seventy-four.

That is what “scalable” is supposed to mean, and it is the difference between a website that ages well and one that needs rebuilding in three years.

Website Design for Award Winning CLC Landscape Design

A modern WordPress website designed to highlight high-end landscaping projects and strengthen online presence.
From 3D renders to reality, CLC Landscape Design — experts in award-winning outdoor spaces — needed a website that showcased their craftsmanship and legacy with the same precision and artistry they bring to every project.

Designing a Scalable, High-Performance Website for a Growing Landscaping Business

Client Overview:

CLC Landscape Design is an award-winning New Jersey firm specializing in high-end landscape architecture and outdoor living spaces. Their craftsmanship and reputation are top-tier — but their digital presence no longer reflected the quality of their work. The old HTML site was outdated, slow, and difficult to update, creating a disconnect between their brand and their online experience.

From Performance Issues to a Scalable, High-Performing Website

The Challenge:

When CLC came to us, their website faced several critical issues:

  • Built on static HTML with no CMS or custom post types, making updates tedious and inconsistent

  • Outdated design that lacked accessibility compliance and mobile responsiveness

  • Email deliverability problems (contact form messages going to spam)

  • Slow performance and an old gallery system that buried their best work

  • No structured portfolio pages or clear service segmentation

The goal: rebuild the entire digital experience from the ground up — modern, scalable, fast, and worthy of their brand legacy.

Our Approach:

We partnered closely with CLC for over five months, working hand-in-hand with owner Rich through weekly design and strategy meetings. Every design decision was made collaboratively, ensuring the new site aligned perfectly with their evolving brand vision and client needs.

We launched the project on a staging environment with a temporary domain, allowing us to rebuild the site without disrupting their live presence — a crucial step for maintaining business continuity.
